In between the past and future, tradition and modernity. Singer, composer, producer, and performer Lyra Pramuk brings a unique artistic vision to today’s pop music. She mixes classical vocalism, pop sensibilities, performance practices and contemporary club culture in what can best be described as futurist folk music.
Her main instrument is her own voice – sampled, mutated through various machinery and software and then layered so as to create a hypnotic stream of sounds and drones. It is deeply spiritual music, basically wordless but rich with meanings.
Lyra Pramuk 2020 debut album Fountain released on Icelandic label Bedroom Community was hailed as a future classic by music reviewers, earning her comparisons to both Arthur Russell and Holly Herndon, with whom Pramuk collaborated earlier. “Pramuk’s debut album generously looks inward to illuminate the multiplicity of the self.” wrote Pitchfork.
